An adaptor for adapting a mains plug according to a first national standard to a mains socket according to a second, different second national standard comprises a housing 11 with a socket (12, Fig 1) for receiving the first mains plug, and at least two plug assemblies 16, 20 according to different national standards. One pin assembly is fixed relative to the adaptors housing, while the other may slide telescopically. An externally-operable selection mechanism 18 is provided for selectively deploying, or at least for making externally deployable, one of the at least two plug assemblies while simultaneously concealing, at least partially, the remaining plug assembly or assemblies so to make them effectively unusable. For example it may push out a core 15 which covers pins 16 , and may allow pins 20 to spring out. This is convenient as the end user can effortlessly select one of the outputs while hiding one that is not necessary. Naturally, a network of internal conductors for providing electrical continuity between the first mains plug and the selected plug assembly is provided inside the adaptor. The pins 20 may have a locking mechanism to hold them in place once extended. A plug on a cable may likewise have two sets of pins. |
