PURPOSE: A shielded power generation device for ships and a control method thereof are provided to effectively and quickly extinguish a fire with improving performance and safety of a combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: A shielded power generation device for ships comprises a combustion engine (100), a shielding film (110), an intake unit (130), an exhaust unit (140), a sensing unit (120), and a fire extinguishing control unit (190). The combustion engine generates driving power by combustion of fuel. The shielding film is formed to wrap the combustion engine. The intake unit allows air to the shielding film. The exhaust unit discharges the air out of the shielding film. The sensing unit senses fir or flame at more than pre-determined temperature. The fire extinguishing control unit extinguishes a fir according to signals from the sensing unit.
