PURPOSE: An art work appraising method using characteristics of art works and a system thereof are provided to easily the authenticity of art works made of materials having corresponding characteristics. CONSTITUTION: Genuine article characteristics and artist characteristics including materials of art works are inputted by an artist to be registered in a database. An art work characteristic extracting unit extracts an appraising target art work characteristic. A matching unit compares the appraising target art work characteristic to the genuine article characteristics or the artist characteristics in order to match it with corresponding characteristics. An authenticity determining unit determines the authenticity of appraising target art works based on the corresponding characteristics.
