PURPOSE: A damper clutch control apparatus of an automatic transmission and a method thereof are provided to differently perform a release control of a damper clutch according to an operation condition, thereby reducing the occurrence of a shock when releasing the damper clutch. CONSTITUTION: Whether a speed reducing intention is detected or not is determined while driving a vehicle in a power-on state where a damper clutch is connected (S403). A duty holding time for a release control of the damper clutch and an inclination are determined by a slip amount of engine revolutions per minute (RPM) and turbine RPM, and a duty offset for the release control of the damper clutch is determined by engine torque (S404). The release control is performed with the duty offset after maintaining a connection duty of the damper clutch during the determined duty holding time (S407). If the release control of the duty offset is completed (S408), the release control of the damper clutch is performed by applying the determined inclination (S409).
