PURPOSE: A damper clutch control apparatus of an automatic transmission and a method thereof are provided to actively perform a release control of a damper clutch according to an intention of a user to reduce or accelerate a speed, thereby enhancing an acceleration feeling. CONSTITUTION: A driving information detecting unit (100) detects driving information including an amount of an accelerator pedal operation, engine revolutions per minute (RPM), engine torque, and turbine RPM. An actuator (300) performs combination or release of the damper clutch by controlling a hydraulic pressure supplied to the damper clutch. A control unit (200) controls the combination or release of the damper clutch by controlling the actuator according to the driving information. The control unit performs the release of the damper clutch by determining an inclination and a duty offset for a release control of the damper clutch.
