PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of a false color in a color difference component generated using an image value after the correction of a defective pixel.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: an image input unit which receives an image composed of plural pixels; a defective pixel correction unit which corrects a pixel value obtained by estimating the pixel value of the defective pixel in the image received from the image input unit on the basis of the pixel values of pixels in the vicinity of the defective pixel, to be the pixel value of the defective pixel; a color difference generation unit which generates the color difference of the defective pixel in the image corrected by the defective pixel correction unit; and a defective pixel position color difference smoothing unit which smooths the color difference of the defective pixel generated by the color difference generation unit more strongly than the other region in the vicinity of the defective pixel.
