PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an EGR gas layer in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: In each unit 17 of a switching device 1, an intake air flow following a contour of a cam 18 is switched between a first flow containing new air and a second flow that contains exhaust gas and is different from the first flow. The flow of the intake air sucked into a cylinder is switched between a flow containing new air and a flow containing exhaust gas. Both flows are sucked into the cylinder without mixing. In an intake process, new air to be condensed on the outer peripheral side and the lower side in the cylinder is introduced earlier, and then an EGR gas to be condensed on the inner peripheral side and the upper side is introduced, thereby forming an EGR gas layer sufficiently. |
