PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is capable of suppressing misregistration of colors in toner images by precisely adjusting positions in a main scanning direction of toner images formed on a plurality of image carriers even in the case of the occurrence of large variation in speed of a carrying body.SOLUTION: A magnetic writing head 25 forms a magnetic scale 24 being an example of a first scale, on an intermediate transfer belt 9 in association with scanning lines forming a pattern image 35. A potential sensor 22M forms an electrostatic image scale 21M being an example of a second scale, on a photosensitive drum 1M in association with scanning lines forming a pattern image 36. An image carrier rotation control unit 43 controls a peripheral speed of the photosensitive drum 1M in a rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 9 to align the electrostatic image scale 21M on the photosensitive drum 1M with the magnetic scale 24 on a carrying body so that the pattern image 36 is transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 9 in a position shifted from the pattern image 35 by a prescribed number of scanning lines when the pattern image 36 is transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 9. |
