A method for manufacturing a silica membrane filter, whereby a silica membrane filter comprising a porous base material and a silica membrane that is a calcined membrane formed on the porous base material is manufactured by conducting a calcined membrane-forming procedure at least once, said calcined membrane-forming procedure comprising a membrane formation step for applying a precursor sol, which is a sol of a silicon alkoxide containing p-tolyl group, to the porous base material to form a precursor sol membrane, a drying step for drying the precursor sol membrane formed on the porous base material to form a dry film, and a calcination step for calcining the dry film formed on the porous base material to form a calcined film, wherein the ratio of the total mass of the silica membrane to the total mass of the dry film is 38-85 mass% inclusive. Provided is a method for manufacturing a silica membrane filter whereby a silica membrane filter capable of selectively separating an alcohol from a mixture of a hydrocarbon with the alcohol can be manufactured. |
