PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bind and hold a split type sealing ring in a proper ring form without causing strain on a sealing end surface.SOLUTION: In a split type mechanical seal constituted in a split type sealing ring in which a first sealing ring 5 provided to a seal case 2 and a second sealing ring 9 provided to a rotary shaft 6 are circumferentially split and which is annularly bound by binding rings 4, 8 mounted to retainer rings 3, 7, elastic seal members 23, 24 comprised of annular plate-shaped end surface seal parts 25, 27 and tubular peripheral surface seal parts 26, 28 continuous to outer peripheral edges thereof are filled between the split type sealing rings 5, 6, the retainer rings 3, 7 and the binding rings 4, 8, while the end surface seal parts 25, 27 are pressed between base end surfaces 5c, 9c of the split type sealing rings 5, 6 and sealing ring holding surfaces 3e, 7b of the retainer rings 3, 7 and while the peripheral surface seal parts 26, 28 are pressed between outer peripheral surfaces 5b, 9b of the split type sealing rings 5, 6 and inner peripheral surfaces 4a, 8a of the binding rings 4, 8. |
