When for each of a specified number of palettes, said number being at least three, pixels having color components corresponding to the palette are extracted from the image, at least three palettes among the specified number of palettes are grouped as a first group, and from among the pixels extracted for each of the palettes contained in the first group, the combination of pixels selected for each palette is arranged in conformance with the specified array of palettes, the color chart detection device detects the pixels contained in the combinations as candidate pixels having a possibility of the palettes corresponding to the first group being shown therein. On the basis of the candidate pixels, said color chart detection device determines color information representing the colors of palettes in the image, said palettes being the palettes corresponding to the candidate pixels, and position information representing the positions of said palettes in the image.
