PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that prevents an excessive burden to eyes in the case of drop of a component, etc.SOLUTION: An image display device is provided with: a light source unit; a scan mirror unit for performing raster scanning by reflecting a light flux from the light source unit; a light source driving unit for driving the light source unit on the basis of input image data; a microlens array disposed on a light path between the light source unit and the eyes of a user; an optical sensor for detecting the presence or absence of the microlens array; and a shutter that enters or exits from the light path according to the detection result of the microlens array by the optical sensor. When the presence of the microlens array cannot be detected by the optical sensor, the shutter is inserted into the light path for blocking light.
