PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the disadvantages of the known compositions and to produce a product in which the amount of mixing water is minimized, the quantities of matrix material are minimized, the porosity of a formed dry body is minimized, the density of the formed dry body is increased, and a product having enhanced modulus of rupture and cold crushing strength values is produced.SOLUTION: A low-water-content castable composition produces cast products with an increased modulus of rupture, an increased cold crushing strength, and decreased porosity. The composition employs closed fractions of constituent particles with specified populations and specified gaps in the particle size distribution to produce these properties. The composition is suitable for refractory applications. |
