A method that enabled digital cameras to digitally process captured two dimensional image sequences at a real time video rate and to convert the two dimensional image sequences into stereoscopic three dimensional image sequences. Using a pipelining architecture, auto-exposure, auto-focus or auto-white balance statistics (also known as AAA statistics) are obtained for a captured two dimensional sequence, 4062. These statistics are used to estimate depth, 4064, within each frame image within the sequence and the depth data used to generate a disparity map, 4065. From the disparity map a second perspective of the two dimensional image is generated, 4067. The two images for the frame provide a three dimensional perspective for the frame within the sequence. The second perspective may be generated from the disparity map by use of a warping component in the camera 302(b). |
