Re-mapping packet identifiers (PIDs) in an audio/Visual (AV) receiver

A method and associated apparatus for remapping packet identifiers (PIDs) in an AV content receiver. Encoded AV content is received as two or more packetized data streams with each stream comprising one or more programmes having data packets identified by PIDs. A composite packetized data stream is generated having programme data from two or more of the data streams by designating one of the data streams as a primary stream and the other as a secondary stream 360 and re-mapping the PIDs of data packets in the secondary stream 370. Two or more programmes are then decoded from the composite data stream according to the PIDs. If a change of channel is detected on the primary data stream 372 the designations of the primary and secondary data streams are switched so that the primary becomes secondary and vice versa 374. This ensures that PID remapping is only carried out on the data stream that has changed and viewing is not interrupted on the unchanged channel.
