摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-emitting laser having a high yield and high reliability and capable of a high-speed modulating operation. SOLUTION: A surface-emitting laser is equipped with a substrate; a first multilayer-film Bragg reflection mirror formed on the substrate; an oxidized current blocking layer which is formed on the first multilayer-film Bragg reflection mirror and has a p-type conductivity; a first semiconductor spacer layer which is formed on the oxidized current blocking layer and has at least part thereof having a p-type conductivity; an active layer formed on the first semiconductor spacer layer; a second semiconductor spacer layer which is formed on the active layer and has at least part thereof having an n-type conductivity; a step structure formed in the surface of the second semiconductor spacer layer; and a second multilayer-film Bragg reflection mirror which is formed on the second semiconductor spacer layer and consists of a low refractive index layer and a high refractive index layer in which a difference in refractive index between these two layers is 1 or above.
