PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication device and a radio communication method that can expand a service area where communication is possible by appropriately controlling the directivity of an antenna.SOLUTION: A radio communication device 2000 comprises a variable directional antenna 100 and a variable directional antenna control unit 310 that varies the directional direction of the variable directional antenna 100 to any of a plurality of prescribed directions. When a synchronous burst is received, the variable directional antenna control unit 310 varies the directional direction intermittently at a prescribed time interval at or longer than the minimum time necessary for receiving the synchronous signal or it makes the directional direction no directional. When a communication channel is received, it varies the current designated direction at a prescribed period including a part of reception period of the synchronous signal of the communication channel. This makes a service area where communication is possible expand. It is also the same for a radio communication method.
