PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of improving the number of pixels in a pseudo-manner by shifting pixels, and suppressing deterioration of picture quality such as an occurrence of a ghost image caused by unintended reflected light and a decrease in ANSI contrast.SOLUTION: In a first retardation plate 28a, image light in a state of linear polarization through a light emission side polarizer 25h can be brought into a state of circular polarization. Thereby, of the image light, the light reflected at a polarization switching liquid crystal panel 28b proceeds in reverse direction at the first retardation plate 28a again, so that the light, which has proceeded in reverse direction and passed through the first retardation plate 28a, becomes polarization orthogonal to a polarization axis that is a transmission axis of the light emission side polarizer 25h. Therefore, the occurrence of a ghost image caused by the reflection at the polarization switching liquid crystal panel 28b and the decrease in ANSI contrast can be suppressed, and a high quality image can be formed. |
