The method involves determining a spectrogram representing the energy spectrum of a digital audio signal according to a logarithmic scale (E101), and detecting vertical contours in a representative image of the determined spectrogram (E102). A beginning of transient sound is detected (E103) in the audio signal according to the detected vertical contours, where the image of the spectrogram of the audio signal is pre-treated (E110) by low-pass filtering by application of a given pixel to a weighted sum of neighboring pixels of the image.
