A display apparatus is provide to generate a sensing signal corresponding to external brightness from an optical sensor and change the sensing signal into a brightness control signal corresponding to the sensing signal, thereby controlling the intensity of radiation generated from a backlight unit by using the brightness control signal and controlling the brightness of an image by controlling a data signal for displaying an image by using the brightness control signal. A display apparatus(100) comprises a display panel(110), a driving signal applying unit(120), a backlight unit(130), an optical sensor unit(140), and a control module(150). The display panel includes pixels for changing light into an image. The driving signal applying unit is connected to the display panel and has a driving signal unit for generating an image driving signal necessary to display the image from the display panel. The backlight unit supplies the light to the display panel. The optical sensor unit is disposed in a second substrate to generate a sensing signal corresponding to external brightness. The control module is disposed in the driving signal applying unit and receives the sensing signal to generate a brightness control signal for controlling the brightness of the image. |
