The device (1) has a process channel that passes liquid or gaseous process medium to an operating region. A light source such as laser or light receiver such as camera are positioned relative to the workpiece to make the light beam to fall on the workpiece. The incoming light beam from the workpiece is utilized for quick, accurate and reliable positioning of cutting device main portion. The light beam is extended partially within the process channel.
