The device (1) has a non-volatile memory area (2) with parameter memory elements (3) that selectively exhibit adjustable status states. A control unit (4) writes and/or reads data parameters in the memory area and is in active connection with the memory area. The device is provided in an operating mode, if the parameter memory elements exhibit one status state and switched from the operating mode into another operating mode, if all the parameter memory elements exhibit another status state. An authentication device (7) adjusts the parameter memory elements in an authentication state. The non-volatile memory area is electronical EPROM. The control device comprises a display element in form an LED. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjustment of a control device for a motor car.
