This nematic liquid crystal composition is for use in a TN, OCB, ECB, IPS or VA-IPS mode liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal composition is characterized in that: the dielectric anisotropy is positive; and the viscosity is sufficiently low, while the temperature range of a nematic phase is prevented from deteriorating by minimizing the lowering of reflective index anisotropy, the lowering of nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature, and the rising of lower limit temperature of a nematic phase. Further, the liquid crystal composition exhibits excellent characteristics such as fast response, high display quality and little display defect, thus being suitable for practical use. |
