[Class 46] [Also in Group V] A method of making an oil filter comprises moulding a mass of mineral wool in situ in a casing so as to bond the mass to the casing. As shown, a casing in two parts a, b contains a mass c of mineral wool which has been moulded with flutings or undulations (see Group V) and bonded to the part b by the use of a binder such as artificial resin. If desired the mass c may be re-entrantly shaped on the outlet side, by being moulded on a perforated support. The mass is separated from the outlet by a felt pad d, a sheet f of filter paper or like material, and a perforated screen e. The felt pad may be omitted, and, two perforated metal screens with an intervening gauze may be used.</p> |
