The drive has a control stage coupling first- and second power supply voltage levels as a control signal for operating a piezo element (PA) at first- and second nodes (P1, P2). A compensation resistor is coupled between a third node and the first or second power supply voltage level of the control stage. A size of the compensation resistor i.e. adjustable resistor, is chosen such that a static mechanical state of the piezo element is adjusted with a time constant size of the power supply voltage levels. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a piezoelectric drive.
