In order to prevent excessive unraveling of a fiber bundle due to variations in the speed at which the fiber bundle is wound, a filament winding apparatus (100) comprising a hoop winding device (30) is provided, wherein the hoop winding device (30) is provided with a wrapping table (34), a bobbin support unit (50), a braking unit (51), a slack removal unit (60), a detector (67), and a controller (90). The slack removal unit (60) absorbs the slack caused by the difference between the winding speed (V1) of a fiber bundle (F) and the unraveling speed (V2) of the fiber bundle (F). The detector (67) detects whether the amount of slack absorbed in the slack removal unit (60) is equal to or greater than a predetermined amount, or is less than the predetermined amount. On the basis of a detection signal from the detector (67) indicating that the amount of slack is equal to or greater than the predetermined amount, the controller (90) increases the braking force of the braking unit (51) for braking the rotation of a bobbin (70A). On the basis of a detection signal from the detector (67) indicating that the amount of slack is less than the predetermined amount, the controller reduces the braking force of the braking unit (51) for braking the rotation of the bobbin (70A). |
