PURPOSE: A railroad vehicle weight estimating device for a railroad vehicle system and a method thereof are provided to estimate the weight of each railroad vehicle in driving without attaching a physical sensor for measuring the weight. CONSTITUTION: A railroad vehicle weight estimating device (10) for a railroad vehicle system includes a modeling unit (11) and an estimation unit (12). The modeling unit dynamically models the railroad vehicles. The estimation unit receives a speed, the acceleration, and thrust of railroad vehicles, thereby estimating the weights of the vehicles and a railroad grade by using the dynamic model.
