PURPOSE: A card terminal and an offline payment method using the card terminal are provided to switch automatically an online payment system to an offline payment system in case a failure occurs in the card terminal and to advance settlement, thereby minimizing the inconvenience of the passenger. CONSTITUTION: A communication unit (504) communicates with an external server and transmits authorization request information for inputted payment costs. A storage unit (502) classifies and stores online payments and offline payments. If a payment environment is switched to online, a card terminal transmits the stored offline payments to the outside through the communication unit. A controller (500) determines a current payment environment according to a communication status provided from the communication unit. If the current payment environment is online, the controller advances online payment for the requested payment of a taxi fare. If the current payment environment is offline, the controller advances offline payment.
