PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated steel sheet for a welded can, causing no flange crack during a process of flanging work after neck-in processing in producing welded cans, and specifically excellent in achieving reduced thickness, and a method for producing the surface treated steel sheet.SOLUTION: A surface treated steel sheet for a welded can has a chemical composition which includes, by mass, 0.02-0.06% of C, 0.0001-0.020% of Si, 0.10-0.60% of Mn, 0.0001-0.02% of P, 0.0001-0.02% of S, 0.010-0.100% of total Al and 0.002-0.006% of N, with the remainder comprising Fe and inevitable impurities, and in which a ratio of [Al]/[N] between an Al content [Al]% and a nitrogen content [N]% is less than 4 or more than 7; satisfies a relationship of [uniform elongation]/[total elongation]≥0.8 in [uniform elongation] and [total elongation] and a relationship of [&phgr;]/[t]≤0.01 in a sheet thickness [t] and an average particle size [&phgr;] of involved carbides; and has a hardness of from 62 to 85 in terms of HR30T and a sheet thickness of 0.1-0.4 mm. |
