[Class 52 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a device for locking telescopic tubes, one end of the inner tube 1 has secured thereto two spaced guiding devices 3, 4 having adjacent oppositely inclined cam faces 5, 6. These are engaged by complementary faces 8, 9 and split sleeve 7 of such diameter to be an interference fit, when unlocked, in the outer tube 2. A wedge 10 fits into a complementary wedge-shaped slit in the sleeve 7 which is expanded or released by relative rotation of the tubes which are thereby locked or freed. Axial compression of the tubes increases the locking effect, which increase may be effected in axial tension by reversing the sleeve 7 and wedge 10. In a modification the wedge may have cam surfaces to engage the guiding devices and hence move axially to expand or release a plain sleeve having no axial movement. |
