630,282. Vehicle wheels. ARCHAMBAULT, J. M., and SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET BROMSREGULATOR. March 10, 1947, No. 6672. [Class 144 (i)] In wheels of the kind described in Specifications 449,738 and 476,543 comprising rubber blocks or rings fitted in compression between spaced flanges on the hub and rim, the metal holders for the rubber elements are spaced from the hub- or rim-flange for the passage of cooling air drawn in at the wheel centre. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, two sets of rubber blocks 9, 10 are secured to metal facings 17 having pins 17a engaging apertures in the flanges 6, 7-11 of the hub and rim respectively. The pins engaging the rim-flange are provided with shoulders 17b which act as distance-pieces to space the corresponding facings 17 from the flange. In running, air-circulation is induced through openings 16 between vanes 13 on the hub and outlets 28 in the flanges 6, 7 under the rim 12. In a modification, the rubber elements are secured directly to a central flange on the hub, and have metal-faced outer ends spaced from the rim-flanges. Means (not shown) may be provided for adjusting, or controlling, the airvents in the flanges. U.S.A. Specification 2,263,884 is also referred to.
|
