Mineral fibre felts and mineral fibre boards whose fibres were formed from silicatic melts are produced using laser spot welding to melt the mineral fibres together at their cross-over or contact points. Depending on the density of the mineral fibres and of the weld spots, this produces lightweight mineral fibre felts or heavier mineral fibre boards which possess a certain amount of strength. The advantage of this process is that these mineral fibre felts and mineral fibre boards can be produced without the use of organic, formaldehydic binders. |
