Belt sander

A drive mechanism for a belt sander comprising: a motor; a drive pulley operationally coupled to the motor and rotated by the motor; a driven pulley operationally coupled to a drive roller of the belt sander to rotate the drive roller; and a pre-tensioned drive belt around the drive pulley and the driven pulley to translate rotation of the drive pulley by the motor into rotation of the drive roller, the pre-tensioned drive belt having sufficient pre-tensioning to allow slippage of the pre-tensioned drive belt in response to a selected torque value of the motor.
