Handover in a mobile telecommunications system between GSM and UMTS radio coverage zones

An arrangement for controlling the handover of a mobile terminal in a mobile telecommunications network from GSM radio coverage to UMTS radio coverage is disclosed. Serving GPRS support node (SGSN) G generates a command in the packet switched domain to a packet control unit (PCU) E in BSC B. The PCU E causes the radio resource manager (RRM) D in the BSC B to initiate a handover from GSM radio coverage to UMTS radio coverage.
