[Class 23] A centrifugal pressure filter comprises a hollow drum or casing 1, a hollow shaft 3 mounted for rotation in the casing 1, filter leaves or screens 8 secured on the shaft 3, and in communication with the hollow shaft 3 and means for cleaning the filter leaves 8 without dismantling the filter after the filtering operation is completed. Each filter leaf consists of a pair of former discs 9 of wire mesh with an intermediate wire mesh disc 19, disposed between secondary discs 10 of fine gauze, the whole being covered with filter cloth. During the filtering operation the liquid passes inwardly through the leaves and via holes 15 and the hollow shaft 3 to the outlet 16. The foreign matter in the liquid collects on the outside of the screens and after the filtering operation is completed a spray of liquid from pipe 29 directed radially on to the screens while they are rotating washes the foreign matter away in the form of a sludge.</p> |
