PURPOSE: A backlight control device, a backlight control method, and a recording medium prevent a flicker generated when contrast differences are expanded and a trail generated by intermediate image data. CONSTITUTION: A backlight control device emits backlight at first brightness for a first time in a period that original image data is displayed on a display device. The backlight control device includes a control unit which controls the backlight to be emitted at second brightness darker than the first brightness for a second time longer than the first time in a period that intermediate image data generated based on the original image data is displayed on the display device.
