PURPOSE: A power line communication (PLC) modem for charging an electric vehicle and a power line communication system for the same are provided to offer a PLC modem enabling a high-speed data communication between an electric vehicle and an electric vehicle charging system, thereby providing overall monitoring of a charging process, charging state information, safety requirements, and various services for users. CONSTITUTION: A PLC modem included in an electric vehicle charging system to charge a battery for an electric vehicle through a cable assembly from a power charging system, comprises a PLC physical layer (301), a PLC medium access control (MAC) layer (302), a network layer (303), and a transmission layer. The PLC physical layer is coupled with a power supply terminal or control pilot built in the cable assembly to deliver a PLC signal. The PLC MAC layer generates an association message for initiation of PLC between the electric vehicle and the power charging system. The network layer is connected to the PLC MAC layer and a convergence service access point (SAP) to deliver data received from the power charging system to an upper layer.
