An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to perform driving through a dot inversion system or a column inversion system by applying common voltage inverted at each horizontal period or frame and respectively applying different common voltages to even-numbered common lines and odd-numbered common lines, thereby reducing a data swing width. Plural gate lines and data lines define a pixel area by crossing each other on a substrate. Plural pixel electrodes(114) and common electrodes(112) are alternatively formed in the pixel area and generate a lateral electric field. A common line applies different common voltages to the common electrodes adjacent to each other as leaving a space for the data line. The common line comprises the followings. A first common line(CLodd) is connected to each common electrode of odd-numbered pixel rows corresponding to a direction of the data line. A second common line(CLeven) is connected to each common electrode of even-numbered pixel rows corresponding to the direction of the data line. |
