An apparatus and method of driving an image display device is provided to implement a clear display image by effectively removing motion blur of a moving picture according to an image mode. An image display unit(2) has a pixel formed every region defined by plural gate lines(GL1 to GLn) and plural data lines. A drive circuit unit(10) converts one frame of input data into the same double frame data, and modulates a gamma characteristic of the double frame data in a frame unit according to an image mode of the input data to supply the modulated gamma characteristic to the image display unit or supplies the double frame data to the image display unit intact. The drive circuit unit has a timing controller(8), a gate driver(4) supplying scan pulse to the gate lines, and a data driver(6) converts the data into an image signal to supply the converted data to the data lines. |
