摘要 An IPS(In-Plane Switching) mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to form an outermost common electrode to have double thicknesses by applying diffraction exposure, and overlap a common electrode with an upper part of the outermost common electrode having a lower thickness, thereby preventing a stepped portion in a part where the outermost common electrode is overlapped with the common electrode. A TFT(Thin Film Transistor) is formed in each pixel area defined by a gate line and a data line(215) vertically crossing each other on a first substrate(211). A common line is parallel to the gate line. An outermost common electrode(225a) is prolonged from the common line, and formed in an edge of a pixel area adjacent to the data line. The outermost common electrode has a stepped portion of first and second thicknesses. Plural common electrodes(224) are contacted with the common line. A part of the common electrode is overlapped with the outermost common electrode of the second thickness thinner than the first thickness. Plural pixel electrodes(217) are contacted with a drain electrode of the TFT, and formed between the common electrodes in parallel. An LC layer(231) is formed between the first substrate and a second substrate(221) facing the first substrate.
