PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor driving apparatus that protects a semiconductor switching element or the like of a power converter from a regenerative voltage generated from a motor when the motor is rotated by external force.SOLUTION: When power converter failure detection means 53 detects a failure of a power converter 60, power converter control means 52 stops driving of the power converter 60. First opening/closing control means 31 turns off a first power supply relay 21 of power supply source opening/closing means 20, and turns on a second power supply relay 22. When a motor 80 is rotated by external force and a regenerative voltage occurs in a state that the driving of the power converter 60 is stopped, the regenerative voltage is passed from the power converter 60 via the second power supply relay 22 in on-state and a parasitic diode of the first power supply relay 21, and is regenerated into a battery 15. This protects switching elements 61-66 of the power converter 60 and elements of a smoothing capacitor 67 or the like from the regenerative voltage, thereby preventing damage and lower lifetime due to overvoltage. |
