PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for producing silicon oxide (SiOx 0<x<2), especially a production method capable of producing silicon oxide suitable for a negative electrode active material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery.SOLUTION: High-quality silicon oxide (SiOx 0<x<2) suitable as a negative electrode active material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery can be produced by heating silicon dioxide (SiO) and silicon (Si) or carbon (C) under an atmosphere having an oxygen concentration of ≤0.5 vol% by using an arc furnace (electric arc furnace). |
