A method for use in valley hour charging, where a charging device (201) is connected to a motor vehicle (211). The method comprises: A. acquiring charging state information, where the charging state information comprises a current power level, a rated capacity, and a charging power (401); B. acquiring a valley hour charging demand, and calculating a charging time period and/or an estimated cost on the basis of the valley hour charging demand and of the charging state information (402); C. displaying the charging time period and/or the estimated cost (403); D. acquiring charging instruction information (404); and, E. if valley hour charging is selected in the charging instruction information, then performing valley hour charging for the motor vehicle (405); otherwise, no valley hour charging is performed.
