PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium that includes a protective film with a thickness of less than 3 nm represented by a tetrahedral amorphous carbon film with a high sp3 bond ratio, and can secure head flying performance as a magnetic disk drive, and a method of manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: By ultraviolet irradiation or the like in the atmosphere, a carbon interatomic bond ratio sp3/(sp2+sp3) value at a depth of 0.5 nm from the outermost surface of a protective film mainly composed of carbon with a thickness of 1.0 nm or more and less than 3.0 nm is improved to 40% or more and less than 50%. |
