A slide material including an Sn-based matrix; 2 or more types of Sn-containing intermetallic compounds harder than the Sn-based matrix; wherein the Sn-containing intermetallic compounds include a primary compound having the greatest hardness and a secondary compound being second in hardness, and wherein the compounds satisfy all of:
(1) R=St/S and 20%‰¦R‰¦60%,
(2) R2=S2/St and 5%‰¦R2‰¦50%,
(3) R1=S1/S2 and 50%‰¦R1‰¦800%
where, S represents an area of an observation field; St, the total area of the Sn-containing intermetallic compounds within S; R, an area percentage of St with respect to S; S2, a secondary area of the secondary compound within S; R2, an area percentage of S2 with respect to St; S1, a primary area of a primary compound within S; and R1, an area percentage of S1 with respect to S2.
