PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping material and a damping composite material having improved loss coefficient and vibration damping performance. SOLUTION: The damping material comprises wholly aromatic polyamide nanofibers having a diameter of 10-500 nm on a cross-section perpendicular to the fiber axis, and the damping composite material is produced by laminating the wholly aromatic polyamide nanofibers having a diameter of 10-500 nm on a cross-section perpendicular to the fiber axis on a substrate comprising at least one kind of material comprising a woven fabric comprising a fiber having a diameter of 0.5-30μm on the cross-section perpendicular to the fiber axis, a knitted fabric, a dry nonwoven fabric, a wet nonwoven fabric and a film.
