The present invention relates to a fire start facilitator, which in essence is a disposable shield 1 arranged between a first flammable material such as a firelighter and a second flammable material such as charcoal, and prevents the firelighter being smothered by the charcoal. In use, the firelighter is shielded from the charcoal thereby allowing a ready supply of oxygen/air to the firelighter such that it can readily combust before burning away the shield and then lighting the charcoal in the normal manner. The fire start facilitator is a combustible shield which has a number of holes 15, 17 to allow oxygen/air to be drawn by the firelighters through the charcoal whilst the dimensions of the holes are smaller than the average dimension of the charcoal. The disposable shield may be made of a fire-retardant cardboard, and is shaped such that the shield structure can be formed by folding along folds 9 and engaging protrusions 13 with slots 11. The shield may be used when lighting a barbecue fire. |
