A method and an apparatus for playing multimedia contents in a display device are provided to store an authentication code corresponding to various DRM(Digital Right Management) methods and to play the decoded contents without the authentication code by using OTA data as a transmitting unit of the authentication code in order to decode/play the multimedia protected by the DRM methods. Multimedia contents are inputted and played(S301). DRM information is read from the multimedia contents and an authentication code corresponding to the DRM information is searched(S302,S303,S305). OTA data is received from a display device and the authentication code contained in the OTA data is read when the authentication code corresponding to the DRM is not searched(S311,S312). The DRM information is decoded, using the authentication code, and the multimedia contents are played(S308,S304). |
