Installation and biological process involving treatment with at least partially ionized gas

Treating water in a processing plant comprises: (i) introducing water to be treated, in which biological material which can be biodegraded by microorganisms is present, into an aeration tank (10), which is part of the processing plant; (ii) introducing gas (13) into the aeration tank for treating the water; and (iii) removing the treated water from the reaction chamber. The introduced gas is at least partially ionized, where the ion fraction is maximum of 1x 10 1> 0> ions per m 3>. An independent claim is also included for a processing plant for treatment of water, preferably a water treatment plant for waste water, comprising an aeration tank for biodegradation of biodegradable material by microorganisms, and an aeration device for introducing gas into the aeration tank, where aeration device comprises a ionization device for ionizing at least part of the gas to be introduced, such that ionized gas is introduced with a maximum of 1x 10 9> ions per grams of dry substance per hour of the biodegradable material and the microorganisms.
