PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation test method for a material for internal combustion engines, by which evaluation of corrosion resistance of a material for internal combustion engines, such as an electrode of an ignition plug or a material for an electrode for use in an engine of a vehicle, can be performed in a simple manner.SOLUTION: An evaluation test method includes a step for maintaining a sample constituted of a metal material at a temperature of at least 800°C and not more than 1100°C in an oxygen-containing atmosphere and forming an oxide film on the surface of the sample and a step for immersing the sample having the oxide film in a corrosive liquid containing an acid and NaCl for a prescribed period of time. After that, corrosion state of the sample (degree of density, state of cracking and the like of the oxide film) is evaluated. By accelerating corrosion in an environment simulating an actual environment of an internal combustion engine, evaluation of the corrosion resistance of the sample can be performed appropriately as well as in a short period of time and in a simple manner. |
